Calculate Finish Dates on P6.

Hi,

I give an example.  Let's say i have an activity which start date is January 2, 2012 with 4 days duration finish date is January 6, 2012.  The successor activity must start on January 7, 2012 with Finish to Start relationship.  But all activities are starting at the same date of finishing date for Predecessors.  Please help.

Amir,

No, you cannot force P6 to calculate the CPM in days.  It always calculates it in minutes.  You can only hide parts and have P6 convert the minutes into days.  For accuracy, you must show time when you update the schedule.

I understand that construction projects normally do not care about time, just days.  Unfortunately, Primavera has forgotten this.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your notes and the great workbook you have prepared in this issue.  But one more question for you.  Is there anyway that i can force the application to calculate the durations by days only.  Being honest with you time in construction job is not an issue.  Thanks.

Amir,

You need to display the CPM hours as well as dates to discover your problem.  P6 works in time increments down to the minute, regardless of what type of date display you have set up.  Take a look at a paper that I co-authored in 2009 called, “Understanding P6 Dates” at http://ronwinterconsulting.com/published.htm.  I believe that this will clear up your confusion.  Good luck!
