Awesome, thanks Rafael.
One of these options are sure to get me where I need to be, thanks again.
Shawn,
I never suggested replacing a comma with a space but with an empty space that will have the effect of a delete.
Take a look at the following video that illustrates the idea using other software. For a better view consider expanding the video to full screen. If you look at the replace by box you will see I added some spaces and then deleted all spaces as to keep the box empty.

Another option can be to change the delimiter character to a character you never use like say ñ [ALT 164] or a slash /.
Another option can be to use a text file to transfer the CSV file instead of Excel, in this way Excel will not interpret blanks spaces as a delimiter.
The following video might be of help with Excel.

To me the last resort is a connection to a database, never had this need.
This is as far as I can go as my software is different and although it can import/export to many formats I rarely use import/export functions to transfer data but what the developer calls "reference books" is easier and more power full than using a spreadsheet. I recognize there is also a possibility the interaction with Excel might require different settings.
For other ways take a look at the following.

Good luck my friend, I hope my two cents can be of some help.
Best regards,
Rafael
Thank you Rafeal and Gary for your comments, when attempting to export to Excel using ASCII text, the comma serves as the field delimiter forcing the remaining text behind the comma into the subsequent cell. In this case, the spreadsheet needs to be cleaned up before it can be uploaded into another program. Considering this issue, replacing the commas with a space would just lead to more headaches.
Furthermore, the "replace all" function only allows me to find-and-replace in each field, notionally 8,000 activities O_o.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

Can a serarch and replace do the trick? Something like, search for commas and replace with empty value.

Shawn: Afraid I don't know of any way to delete part of an activity name using a global change
