Good Day to Everybody!

May I know what consist of the  activity called "Project Running cost"?. I just found from a old programme of our previous planning engineer who was resigned already.

This activity has a relationship SS (Predecessor)to the first activity of the program and FS (successor ) to the last activity of the program, it is a task defendent activity,  has a budgeted cost and under the PRELIMINARIES.

May I know for instance what are cost should be included in this activity? How to update the progress of this activity?

I really appreciate if you could give me examples.

Thank you and hoping for your inputs.

Hi Christopher,

You have got it right.

There might be situations where you have delays on ur project, then you can change your BQ.
For eg... 300 days project and on the 100 th day you should actually be 33.33% complete but what if the project finish shows a delay of 50 days then you will have to consider this duration; ie,%complete=100/350*100; and the Budgeted cost should be corrected to include the cost of this 50 days.;;;as you LOE activity duration will change to 350.

Thank you naveen & Shareef for your inputs.

Maybe the salaries of employee(indirect Manpower) and rent for cars (indirect equipment) becasue budgeted cost for Site office and engineering works (i.e drawings) has its own .

Shareef, if the "Project running Cost" activity has only budgeted cost ( no budgeted unit) , and you said that to update this is based on duration? its just like if you have 300 days and you need to update it on the 100th day, the percentage would be 33.33 % ((100/300)*100%)? Am i correct?  if no can you please give me example?

Thank you for you time.

Preliminary costs includes cost for Maintaining site offices, Approvals, permits, testing,Staff salaries, Mobilisation, site cleaning etc. Perhaps to show the cost of these items he has created like that. Please get conformation from your QS reg. this as they are part of contract documents.

Hi Chris,

Project Running Cost should be the cost of maintaining ur site office...it might even include the staff salaries...You will have thcheck the Prelims in the BOQ to see how the Budgeted Quantity was calculated..!!A little help from ur QS might make things easier...

Now the best way to update this would be based on duration..plus after updation based on duration u can enter the actual cost before posting period performace,,, but be sure to recalculate budgeted units as this would be time dependant.

Yes naveen it seems a Hammock Activity.

Do you have an idea where the cost came from? can you give me examples?

How can we update this kind of activity? what is our basis?

Hoping for your inputs.

Many thanks

Hi chirstofer

It seems like he has created a hammock activity for duration of project for showing  other costs which were not included in budget but they are likely to add to it.

Please correct me If I am wrong
