I have just received a p6 XER file from a colleague but when I install it on my machine all the code files are missing. My colleague has all their codes set as global codes which obviously apply to all projects and I was wondering if this was why the codes did not come across with the project data.

You need to modify your existing import profile. Begin your XER file import and find the Update Project Options screen.
When you get to the Update Project Options screen, click on the “Modify” button. Once the Modify Import Configuration screen shows, click on the Activity Codes line under Project, click on the Action box and when it turns into a drop-down menu, chose “Update Existing” (if you don’t mind any duplicates be over-written) or “Insert New” if you just want the new, non-exiting codes to be inserted.
