Methodology Management (MM) is a tool to management project templates or, p6-speak, methodologies. It included in P6 PPM in versions 7 and earlier, but is no longer included in P6 PPM version 8. The MM tool looked exactly like P6 PPM but it was used only to build templates which meant some functionality was scaled back. In version 8, there is now a true “project template” but only in P6 EPPM version 8, not PPM.

I have started migrating to P6 from P3. I have read about P6 methodology. I want to access a methodology for building construction so that I can make it as a sample. I am the lone planner in my current company and most of my knowledge were self taught from reading and watching from online sources.

You need to set it under Admin->Admin Preferences->Option tab. Tick Allow use of Project Architect. Once Methodolgy templates are created you can select any of the 2 option base or plug-in. Select File-> Project Architect and follow the wizard.

Primavera’s Methodology Management program is used to store Primavera templates for planning to standardize Companies project plan, schedules and documentation. It may contain set of standard activities with WBS, OBS, links, resources, expenses, risk, etc.. and estimate which normally used by the estimator and planner when developing a bid or project. (Ex: Template for Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Rails and highways, Pipeline, Water, Energy, Buildings, Structural…etc. . Or template per discipline or per cost breakdown structure). Meaning instead of coming from the scratch the planner and estimator can easily pull-up a template for the new project and modify to suit. In other word it’s an Activity Library.
There are two type of Methodology used – Base methodology which provide basic infrastructure activities with WBS, OBS, link..etc. One template can be use for one project. Another is Plug-in methodology is tailored to suit. It can be link or plug-in to any activities within one or more templates.
