Budgeted vs remaining cost

Hi Guys,

It all depends on your primavera settings. If the budgeted cost is not the same on remaining cost for non started activities then one of the reason is your original duration is different from remaining duration. Common reason for this is the settings from calculation tab activities under project module -> Link Budget and At Completion for non stated activities is not tick. If this setting is tick then original duration will synchronise to remaining duration for non started activities and make sure that under your resources calculate cost from units is also tick.

If you assigned resources without price/ unit (no effective date, max unit/time, price/unit define) but the settings from calculation tab activities under project module-> Default Price/ Unit for activities without resource or Role price/unit have value then resource will automatically use the default value set on this field.

If the budgeted cost is changing when the duration change then your duration type setting is set to Fixed Duration and Unit/Time or Fixed Unit/Time. This will synchronise update the budgeted cost. If you don’t want to automatically update your budgeted cost based on duration then change the duration type to Fixed Duration and Unit or Fixed Duration. Using this setting, Unit/Time will become variable and units will be fixed even the duration change.

Keep exploring your self to all the settings in Primavera to familiarise on how to use them such as Duration Type, % Complete Type and Activity type.

Hi

Also there is something confused me. I assigned budgeted cost immediately to a resource name cost without identifying the unit price for the resource. Then when I change the original duration the budgeted cost changed accordingly, I repeat changing for 2 to 3 times it is also changed and then the changing stopped

Any explanation for this case

Hi Jatinder,

As far as I know, there is a lot of reason why is this happening. It happened to me however, you can sort out this problem by using Global Change:

Where Remaining Cost " = " Budgeted Cost " - " Actual Cost

Arnold
