Good morning Sajid

I’m not working for Primavera, only a user with some experience in P3 and P3e/P6.

After an error I never heard of a need to reformat a pc - in some cases to reinstall SQL. You have Primavera messages and e.g. the event logs. The behaviour of your SQL server must have some technical reason. Consult your IT.

When you started P3 I assume that first you learnt. Do the same for P6. Study the file "From P3 to P6" which is on your installation DVD.

I found less time is needed to plan and to schedule a project with P6 than with P3.

Regards

Dieter

"Always be aware: Similar name, different software"

Yes.

it is also more unstable. Sorry to say that in the last few days, i have been unable to find any additional value that P6 has added to our project as compared to p3 with the exception that a number of PCs had to be formatted and windows reinstalled because SQL will not reinstall properly once it stops working

I know its a bad remark but this is what the first observation is...; A more difficult way to do the same work!

there are different parameter settings related to the calculation of progress:

- View Projects tab "Calculations": "Recalculate ..." and "Activity percent complete ..."

- View WBS tab Earned value

View activities

- Auto Compute Actuals (activities, resources, expemses)

- check the different %-complete types

Study the ref’manual:

- Choosing a Method of Updating

- Search by "percent complete"

Always be aware: Similar name, different software

Dieter

p.s. I sent you a private mail

The question still remains that once i have entered the activity wise progress, p3 shows the band wise progress at the top of the column. In P6, however the top of the columns remain empty and shows nothing.

even the totals in the "scheduled % progress" show 0% on the band lines.

where do we see these total progresses??

P6 is a different software. To control progress you have more possibilities than in P3.

Question 2 is: Right mouse click in the table area (as in P3) --> Group and Sort --> Mark Show Totals. It is not per group.

Percent complete should be Activity %-complete, but be careful, the way to fill it, follows parameter settings.

My recommendation:

- On your P6 DVD there is a excellent file "Move From P3 to P6". It will be helpful to study this file.

- P6 has a feature "Hint Help". Start it. If then you’ll move the cursor into a column, a short explanation of that attribute will be shown; equivalent for the window with a column selection: once click left mouse button onto a field and you’ll get this window.

Regards

Dieter
