Durations in Group Headings - P5

Anyway, as told u earlier, option is there in P6, to remove group heading duration, so that there is no confusion.



Also, it is still an enhancement request for primavera to change the summary duration calculation.



P6 doesn’t calculate the summary duration on 24x7 basis but its on the basis of global calendar.

While I was reading my own post, I saw that I typed something wrong. Please note the following correction:



It just counts the number of hours between the ealiest early START date and the latest early finish date of the summarised activities. It counts these hours based on a 24/7 calendar, no matter what the calendar of the activity or default calendar of the project is.

Thanks for your reply. First of all, my version of Primavera (P5) doesn’t have that option under Group-Sort. So I can’t remove the totals from the summarised band.



Also, I understood how P5 calculates the summary durations.



It just counts the number of hours between the ealiest early finish date and the latest early finish date of the summarised activities. It counts these hours based on a 24/7 calendar, no matter what the calendar of the activity or default calendar of the project is.



This is very confusing when issuing reports to the management. I hope more options are available in the newer versions of Primavera.



Moreover if your activity is in between 1-Jun-2010 and 31-Aug-2010 (only for this year), P5 takes 1 day as 8 hours, rather than 24, while calculating the summarised durations.



I think this is totally weird, and probably a bug.

I believe, Ulkaton is asking about the summary duration. (Group banding)



Sumamry Durations are calculated based on the global calender while, activity duration are calculated based on the project calender. make sure u have same calender.



Or u can remove these group banding durations by going to GROUP and SORT and uncheck SHOW GROUP TOTALS.

Hi,



Try to check your calendar assigned to the activities and make it a default calendar.



Or you can create one activity to each group and assign "WBS Summary" as Activity Type but make sure that the calendar assign to your newly created activity is the same calendar with the existing activities.
