You will find a number of threads in this forum that compare the two packages. You will also find plenty of heated debate about which is better and why.
As Mike says, keep an open mind. It may even be worth considering paying for a basic P5 course and using it to evaluate the software.
It depends on your personality...In my experience, there are those that embrace P3e for what it offers and there are those that cling to P3 for what they know. I made the transition 4-5yrs ago and have never looked back (and P3e has improved greatly since then!)
If you are looking for something that looks, feels and acts the way P3 does and want everything to "be the same" then you could be disappointed.
If you move across with an open mind I am sure you will be impressed. There is a certain shift in mindset required to appreciate the underlying structure and logic that makes P3e so good compared to P3. However, once made, you will be cruising.
As an experienced planner you would find it easy to recognised the way that P3e is written around the Project Management process. Most of the functionality of P3 can be found in P3e and many functions have the same icons/buttons; although menu structures are somewhat different, they are logical. In addition, P3e host a heap more extra functionality that you couldnt do in P3.
