In P3 You can put more than one curtain in. Push the "curtain" button after click on the bar area and repeat this till you got the require number of curtains. After that You can move them or change the start and the finish date clicking on the one you vant to change after clicking on the "pin" button and writing the required dates in. As far as I know what You are not able to get is different format for the different curtains.

P3e version 5.0 supports progress spotlight (highlighting all activities within the selected time frame) and multiple curtains.
So no workaround required, just get the new version up-and-running.
