Revised baseline due to Client delay & reduction in scope of works

Hi All,

In one of our projects, we have a situation as follows;

1. Baseline programme submitted and approved as noted.

2. Monthly basis updating is ongoing. It shows some delay because of the delay by client in allocating the site. We sent the EOT claim, but the client is not accepting it.

3. Few months later, client give instruction to reduce some scope as well as to add a few more sope of works. This changed the logic of the schedule and no more useful to compare with the original baseline (for performance measurement)

4.Discussions are ongoing to prepare a revised baseline and how. Is it acceptable to incorporate all the required changes(scope reduction/adding) in the original baseline and submit to client, or incorporate the changes in the current updated schedule (along with the client delays).

Hi Kanan

The revised programme must have logic that supports the revisions.

You should report progress against both programmes until you get agreement.

Hi Mike,

By incorporating the new changes in the approved programme (adding/reducing the scope), few WBS will be removed and other few will be added. I believe that a new S-Curve can be created. To clarify, is it allowed to incorporate also the current construction logic in the revised baseline?

By keeping the original schedule (means the updated approved baseline schedule with the current situation and changes) for the updating process, which schedule it can be compared with for performance measurement(until the time client accept the revised baseline)

Hi Kannan

Save the approved programme into a new file to incorporate the changes and show the revised completion date.

Keep the original for updating progress.

Most forms of contract do not allow a reduction in the programme for omission of work unless it is incorporated in a claim for EoT.

incorporate the changes in the current updated schedule (along with the client delays).
