S Curve Reporting

Hi,

I need some help. Hope I can explain this okay. Going back on some old topics I found many discussions around s-curves. The one thing I can’t find is how to pull an overall curve that includes engineering, procurement and construction. I measure engineering with Earned Value on man-hours. This gives me a % work complete. Procurement gets measured on earned value milestones and I use % duration complete for this. The construction gets measured on re-measurable basis. Progress will get measured on cubes of concrete or tons of steel erected. Now I sit with a mix of man-hours and duration. How can I pull this into an accurate overall progress curve.

Thanks for the reply. My concern is that how do I mix % work complete with % complete.

First workout what weightage does Engineering, Procurement and Construction has respectively, the 3 of them summing up to 100% (for example Engineering 20%, Procurement 20% and Construction 60%, 20+20+60=100%); this weightage can be based on number of things such as cost of each phase, or duration or strategic importance or any other determining criteria all stakeholders can agree upon.

Second thing to do is to reduce the individaul % you calculated for each of the 3 phases into their respective overall weightage (for example if you had calculated that individually Engineering is 70% complete, procurement is 40% complete and Construction is 20% done then using the weightage split example of 20+20+60 the % contribution of Engineering phase to overall progress would be 14% (70% of 20%), similarly Procurement contribution to overall progress would be 8% (40% of 20%) and Construction contribution would be 12% (20% of 60%). Therefore the overall progress works out to 34%(14+8+12) and you can use this to plot the ovearll Scurve.
