P6 Plan Help

I am using Primavera P6 and I have a plan in which I have split down to Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Six Monthly and Annually activities.

I have the planned duration for each and I was wondering is there any need in putting a duration in if I have activities split into different sub headings.

Is it possible to put a constraint on each activity within each sub heading for daily, weekly, monthly..... checks.

I am just trying to get my head around how I would show all activities daily and what there duration would be.

I want the client to see what checks need to be made over a year hence splitting activities down to the sub headings.

Thanks

Rhys,

I'm afraid your post is quite confusing to me -I don't really know what you are trying to achieve here. Please confirm the below

-You're schedule consists of a number of activities, all of which will occur every day or every week or every month or every quarter or every 6 months or every year?

-You are wondering why you should enter the durations of these activities if they have allready been organised by their frequency of repetition?

-You want to constrain each of these activities to force them to repeat with the frequency specified? Or for some other purpose?

-You are trying to find out how to set up your gant chart so that you can see which activities are occuring on any given day, and what their duration will be?

-The last point you made I really don't understand at all -are these "checks" the client has to make the same as the "activities" which repeat daily, weekly, etc? Or are the "checks" additional activities which have to be completed once these repeating activities have been finished?

Hi,

I'm not really sure if what do you mean by splitting activities (as what you mentioned). The way I understand it, the tool (P6) uses single "planning unit" for calculations - for a certain plan or schedule. I'm not aware if you can use multiple planning units for a single plan (I don't believe it will work out).

Of course you can define durations and apply constraints but don't expect that it will run dynamically smooth.
