Armando,

It was a joke.

If thousands of houses were built in rivers, estuarys and seas then they would have a diverse effect on the environment that would far outway the benefit of being electrically self-sufficient.

In my opinion.

Hi Oliver,

I’m really sorry to ask this, was it a joke? I mean, its an idea actually. Larry also has a good idea. I just hope this would not turn out to be some sort of a hoover craft dwelling...

That is plain stupid Oliver. Caravans…? Lets talk luxurious dwellings and it might be financially viable. I would suggest only one on each blade for that little extra.. as it needs to be marketed to highfliers.

Armando,

Interesting thought! What about building large floating islands with anchors to the seabed to prevent drifting? The anchors could be used in conjunction with wave energy technology and thereby provide electricity to dwellings and infrastructure?

It is my belief that many building in Venice are built on timber piled foundations in the lagoon. Venice is also sinking as the aquifers below are pumped out.

I guess (and it is only a guess, albeit an educated one) that the building was suffering from deterioration of the foundations and was having new piles installed. In the meantime the inflatable supports were holding the building up until the piles were replaced, at which time it would be reconected to the piles and the balloons removed.

Larry,

Thanks for the information. So its just a retrofitting scheme, right I understand now, thanks. I’m still interested how the technology could be used in some other applications other than putting a single bullet to sunk the whole structure down.

James,

Does PP have a member from that place? Maybe they could say something of their inventions...

I think that the best thing invented by the Venetians was the "Venetian Blind".

If they hadn’t, it would be curtains for us all...

Armando,

Venice has a problem in that the city is slowly sinking. Don’t take my word for it, but I believe that this ‘inflatable balloons’ are not an original structural element. They have been installed retrospectively to prevent buildings from sinking.

Best Regards,

Larry
