Merging projects - can you have different project codes and different calendars? My guess is that you have to have the same project codes with the same lengths or you have to make them match before every clean up. My guess is that it is better to have different calendars because you cannot force two different contractors to use the same. If they are both name 5 week calendar will P6 add the project name? or do you have to before import? Would a resource field have to be the same length or name? or cost?

Combining or merging projects with different project codes and different calendar are not that simple. Depending on ways of merging, the result are different.
Ex: Merging Project using cut/ copy paste or drag and drop function from WBS module window can copy the WBS, Resources, Calendar, links, notes,..etc but not the project activity code unless they are using Global activity code.
Merging Project using import function, depending the type of import action you used such as:
Add to Into Existing Project - It will add including WBS but Project Activity Code will not be imported unless it is Global Activity Code
Create New Project - It will prompt to select EPS level and create new project not combine
Ignore this Project - Not imported
Update Existing - It add all activities ignoring the WBS and will sit imported activities to highest level (Project level)
Replace Existing - It will delete the existing Project and will replace with the imported project.
Merging using the XER Purser:
It will combine the project properly but needs some clean-up on the codes and need a deep knowledge on P6 database because it prone to error and may currupt the database if not sure how to do it (not recommended to beginners and no knowledge on database)
The following link might help.
Good Luck.
