Resource Budgeted Units change?

This is more than likely a simple answer....

Example:

10 day activity for an electrical resource. 4 guys needed on the job for days 1-6, then drop to 2 guys for days 7 & 8 and back up to 4 for days 9 & 10.

Can this be achieved in a single activity, or do I need 3 separate activites linked F-S and up/down the resource as required?

Phil,

The answer is quite complex!

a) One activity with a resource curve. You would need to specifty a resource curve under the "Enterprise" pull down  with a "dip" in the middle. This is of course resusable for any activity where there is a 50% drop in resource requirement for the 70-80% section of the activities duration. Applying % complete values works properly

b) One activity with three resource assignments, each for the electrician resource, but using Resurce Lag and Duration to time the resources within the activity, or a different resource curve for each assignment. Resource Lag and duration creates some issues when reporting progress

c) Three activities with FS relationships. Careful - Lag in P6 is ALWAYS minimum, so an FS relationship with zero lag DOES NOT guarantee the successor starts immediately after the predecesor.

d) Really?  This is a ten day job with 80 manhours of electrical work. Most environments I work in would leave it as simple as that, and let the Foreman sort out each day's worksite for each of his squad......

you need 3 separate activities a lot of time the scheduling specifications limits the duration for an activity to 21 days (not including long lead procurement items)
