Hi all,
Im a junior planner who is working on numerous projects that have been built by somebody else. I have a few questions if any body could help me.
The project went live last monday and i updated on friday when i update the physical% complete and F9 it it doesnt change the remaining duration on the activity should this be done manually? or should i add another column for activity % complete and do it that way? When i update the histo in excel it goes on the man hours that is generated in the resource usage spreadsheet, these are all generated for the forthcoming weeks if i change the remaing duration maually will this have any effect to the forth coming weeks.
in the same project i know there is part of the critical path ment to start on monday but i know it wont start till after that date when i F9 iton friday my end date will obviousley push out is there any way of pulling this end date back? say by reducing the hours that they have budgeted for this activity which i think has been over budgeted?.
im realitivly new to this so i appologise if my questions are a bit simple.
any help would be most appreciated.
Kind Regards

what you can do is run global change
where physical % complete is greter than 0
then duration % complete equals physical % comeplete
Thankyou for all your help Johannes
glad to know theres people out there when we need them.

Yes, when you update the activities with the physical percentage, and you have updated the remaining duration, and have F9 the, the numbers in the resource usage spreadsheet will reflect the updated situation. The progress achieved; this can be hours, materials, plant expenses or cost is then called "earned value". In the resource usage spreadsheet, you see then the remaining to be done.
The reduction of man-hours will not have an effect on the duration of the activity unless you have selected to resource driven option.
Yes, I have missed one vital point during updating. Re-schedule (F9), with the new data-date only after you, have updated all the activities. The remaining durations are starting after the data date.

Hi Leighton
Good that you reach out for assistance.
Yes, when you use physical percent completion then you must update the remaining duration manually. So, I use the following steps.
This is for each and every activity in the schedule.
