Why the earned value cost differs, in P6, In an updated  programme when it is assigned with an original Baseline programme and when no base line (Except current project) programme is attached?

Please clarify, why Earned Value cost changes this case?

Problem was found out

This problem has occured due to the wrong setting in Activity Expenses,  ACCRUAL TYPE is taken as 'Start of Activity' instead of 'Uniform over the Activity'.

Yes Physical % complete and Activity % Complete is same 40%, even Performance % complete 40%.

This particular activity has started out of sequence.

Mr. Zoltan,

My settings are as below

I am usiing Activity % Complete for computing Performance % complete

For Earned value calculations I am using Budgetted values with current dates

Technique for computing Estmate to complete (ETC)

Using Remaining cost for activity

in your admin preferences what under the Earned Value Tab what setting are you using under Technique for computing performance percent complete ? is it Activity % Complete ?

also in this same tab what settings are you using for Technique for Computing Estimate to Complete (EAC) ?

also what setting are you using under the Earned Value Calculation setting ? is it Budgeted value with current dates ?

My settings

1.When calculating Earned value from a baseline use>

Budgeted vaues with current dates.

Technique for computing performance % complete  is Activite % complete

2. Performance % and Activity % complete matches

3. Same Budgets matches in baseline and current activity.

Please see the attachement if possible[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2397:]]

I can't make any of the details out on you screenshot, but possible explanations are:

1) Wrong Earned Value settings (Admin menu > Admin settings > Earned Value. What are your current settings for "technique for computing performance % complete" and "When calculating Earned Value from a Baseline"?

2) Wrong % complete. insert the column "performance % complete" -does this match the "activity % complete"?

3) Budget has changed since baseline was taken. Insert the column "Budget at completion" -does it match the current budget of the activity?

Mr. Gary,

Thanks for your response. But as per the formula, when activity is in progress and percent complete is 40, why the earned value cost showing 100% of the activity ?

Please find attached a screen shot of P6 for the above case.  Please see the highlighted activity.[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2395:]]

Earned Value = %complete x Budget at Completion

Budget at Completion comes from the baseline.

If you change the baseline, you change the BAC. If you change the BAC, you change the EV.
