There were a significant number of enhancements in the P5 Client Server version including:

Undo

WBS Summary Activity

EPS Level Activity Codes

Activity Step Templates

Assignment Staffing

Resource Security

Improved Baseline Functionality

Progress Spotlight

Suspend and Resume

Store Period Performance

Advanced Scheduling Options

Rates for Roles

Excel Import and Export Tool

P3 Subproject Import

Export to Primavera Contractor Version 4.1

Audit Trail Columns

Enhanced or New Graphics Functions

Bar Label Placement

Three Timescale Units

Vertical Sight Lines

Reorganize Automatically

Gantt Chart Curtains

Improved Report Wizard Functionality

It is worth going from P4 to P5 Client Server, but you don’t need to rush to P6 if you are using the Client Server version as there are not many improvements here. Most of the improvements were in the web interface.

P6 Client Server Enhancements were:

XML File Format for Import and Export

Copy an Existing Project with Baseline

Role Limits

Reflection Projects

Manually Edit the Resource Usage Spreadsheet

Owner Activity Attribute used with Reflection Projects

Resource Assignment Audit Trail

Project Layouts

Group and Sort Enhancements

View Planning Resources assigned with the web interface

Curtains and Spotlights Enhancements

Lyle,

take P6 and get training. Forget about P4 and P5 they are now the history.

Every 2 years take new program from Primavera. And training.

Maintenance is 2 years.

If you provide this system you can get your planners, hardware and software operational for every project.

Otherwise you will face HR department which is more difficult then IT.

Good luck!
