Rafael is right - reference-books is universal method of transferring any table information to projects.
You shall specify what you want to import and from what software, but almost any software saves table data as text (Comma Separated Value). Spider can open any text table as its own document.
Now you shall add field codes that correspond with Spider field codes and define which fields will be used as connecting.
If this was done all information from your table will go to the projects of your choice when you decide to transfer data.
Simple example - move to projects an information on amounts of work on each activity (volumes of work).
In this case set field code Code for column with activity codes and Volume for column with the volumes of work. Define that Code is connecting field and Volume data shall be transfered. Then transfer the data into the project with an option to create new objects if they do not already exist.
In this case volumes will be transfered to activities that have the same codes as in your document, and if such activities do not exist they will be created and added to the list of project activities. The same way may be used for transfering other data like names, duurations, material requirements, etc.

Hi
ok I got your point, quite easy ( though the tutorial did not explain that).

Reference Books shall be the method of choice although less powerful and perhaps archaic method such as the use of Excel is available.
