import from excel to PP

Hi

1-is it possible to import data from excel to powerproject, i am not speaking about copy and past.

2- when you import a baseline to the current project, how the two programs are related, are they linked using the activity id ?

Hi Mimoune,

You cannot import data directly from Excel out of the box, as the layout of the data is mostly likely completely unknown.  That is why copy/paste is a good solution, as you can check the table in APP matches the data you are copying!  It might be achieved using a macro (either written by us or by the customer) but if you deviate from the agreed format, the import will probably fail or the imported data wouldn't be correct.  We do have some existing macro addons that can exchange data with Excel, as they have been developed for a specific purpose, so this might be something to discuss directly with us.

For the baseline import, every item (task, resource, link etc.) has a unique internal ID number which is non-editable. These ID numbers are used to match baseline items to the live project ones and if no match is found, the baseline item is not displayed. These ID numbers are different to the many other ways we provide of identifying items as, being non-editable, it ensures the merge/revert isn't going to go wrong.
