PMBOK is a guide for the PMP exam and the logics in the book are applicable to all sort of projects..as we plan with the same methodology for all projects with the same logics only the terminology of milestones and WBS differs..same as information tchnology projects are applicable in that row.

Peters advice is good as far as PRINCE is concerned, although you might consider the Rational Unified Process (RUP) as well for software development.

PM body of knowledge is not a methodology it is a guide-line or u may say way of thinking, organizing thoughts , group of procedures which can be applied to any project any phase any work package.
