what to do in MS Project

 

HI All

I am well versed in MS project software. Basically I hell from training background to core industry. Currently I m working for a Underground Mining project. My job profile is SAP-PS & MSP.  Our project is basically managed by outsourced vender. My basic problem is that I never worked in any kind of project, so I request you to guide me, exactly what should I do in MS Project, so I can save my job. What kind of report a project needs ?

Problems by linking between Project?

Normally I work with Primavera, but is currently working in a organisation where they are using MS Project.

I have suggested that we link activites in different projects (files), as one development project is split into several areas each having thire own plan.

The other planners in the organisation then told me, that it is not possible due to performance.

MS Project 2012 links between projects

I am normally using Primavera, but am curently in an organisation using MS Project 2012 (+server).

I have suggester to start link activities between projects, but the other planners in the org. claims, that MSP cannot handle this....!

Statement from Planners: "Generally when hard link is used while opening the plan or saving or publishing the master project will try to refresh the child projects with the updated data hence there is a performance issue in this type of linking.

Microsoft Project 2013 Reports - Cumulative Sum Data Label

I have a stacked columns/ stacked lines graph for my estimated cost. i need to get the total sum label on the stacked column. is there a way to get the sum to show at the top of my columns rather than the value of the segment of column?  

 

I don't want to creat a seperate resource with the total units as each resource has a different hourly rate attached to it!

Remaining costs spreadsheet

Dear guys,

I am trying to undestrand how the remaining costs work in Ms Project 2003. In Primavera P6 you are able to do this in several editors and it is easy to obtain spreadsheet data for budgted/actual/remaining where

Remaining = Budgeted - Actual

In the resource usage spreadsheet (only material cost items have been assigned in the planning) are available only data for actual (effective cost) and budgeted if a baseline has been saved. But nothing to get a distribution of remaining costs by the user defined timescale even if the Remaining cost column is displayable.
