Data Extraction in BIM

Hello

I have an assignment at my University in which I should write about Data Extraction in BIM. Does any of you have some interesting readings related to this topic? Ways and means of data extraction, for which purposes and how it is used... As far as I know there are softwares which are specialized for data extraction and then this data is transferred to Energy Analysis software, Construction Scheduling software etc. Let me know if you have some advice.

Thanks

M

Survey: Time Schedule updates - Time Schedule Tool or 4D BIM integrator tool?

Hi,

After importing a time schedule to a BIM tool (such as Navisworks or Synchro) to produce a 4D BIM project, :

a) do you perform all the time schedule updates (follow-up) in the BIM tool exclusively? or

b) do you perform all the time schedule updates (follow-up) in the time schedule tool (Microsoft Project or Oracle Primavera) and afterwards you import again the time schedule to the BIM tool (2 steps update)?

All your opinions or experience are welcome.

Thanks

Navisworks and Revit?

Hi Everyone,

Can I know what is the difference between Navisworks and Revit? My planning manager just bought a Navisworks software.

Both Navisworks and Revit are BIM software and belong to Autodesk. What is the difference?

Why Navisworks?

Why Revit?

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,

Planner

4D - Visualising Progress - Activities behind Late Start/ Finish

Hello everyone,

I come from a background in architecture, but have now found myself working with a contractor - where I have been tasked with developing ways of visualising progress using BIM/Navisworks.

I am starting off with some very basic visual reports, which will hopefully become more sophisticated.I came across an 'Autodesk University' presentation by Swinerton, where they showed an interesting image, where model elements behind their 'Late Start', and 'Late Finish' dates were highlighted (below):

4D Modelling

Has anyone managed to successfully, fully integrated, a BIM 4D model program to Program Schedule with resource to cost.

Allot of examples demonstrate a 3D model interface with a program using the WBS and Activity codes, hit start and follow a

predetermined time line, following no real construction methodology.

The Model answer Im looking for, will demostrate retrospectively, or prospectively if either the schedule or model has any changes made refelcts a new status, balancing the two.

Kind Regards

Stephen
