Project Controls Senior Analyst at Black & Veatch International currently based in South Africa on a 6 X 800MW coal fired power plant project. My overall work experience has been in planning and scheduling on medium to large size EPC projects in Coal, Combustion Turbine and Gas, Oil & Chemical plants both in the US and Africa.
As a Senior Planner in my current role, I oversee contractors’ baseline schedules preparation to align with the Key Dates contract requirements. I review execution plans, working schedules and progress reporting against plan. I assist in coordination of contractors’ execution priorities through weekly constructability discussions and on-site daily coordination meetings to manage construction interfaces.
I perform Schedule Variance by reviewing contractors’ weekly schedule updates, look-ahead reports and field progress measurement. I check progress against Project Master Plan for schedule slippages and assist the Lead Planner in identifying work arounds and mitigation plans. Monthly reporting cycle involves critical path analysis, publishing overall project look-ahead schedules and earned value reports for management review.
I have been trained on FIDIC and NEC Contracts and this helps in supporting Contracts and Claims teams by performing Time Impact Analysis and Extension of Time analysis on schedule related claims.
To support overall project execution, I assist our project controls department in updating Standards, Processes and Desk Top Guides in project planning and development to ensure industry best practices in schedule management. I have also enhanced capability within the planning team by training and mentoring 3 junior schedulers through Skills and Knowledge Transfer initiative.
