My first job was the analysis and minor elements of design of a 38km stretch of viaduct forming part of Taiwan’s High Speed Rail Link.

The project won the British Construction Industry International Award in 2005.
As a Design Team Member I undertook:
• Global seismic analysis using multi modal response spectrum method within LUSAS.
• Track-structure interaction analysis for normal and earthquake operation.
• Reinforced concrete column design with seismic loads to AASHTO.
• Column head design using strut and tie method.
• Coordination of design and interface with rail systems, including document control.
Towards the end of our commission I was responsible for scheduling an additional package of design work in Microsoft Project 2002. As this time I bought and read a good proportion of Que’s ‘Using Microsoft Project 2002’ manual.
