Dear Sir/Madam,
I completed an MEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, and obtained a 2.1 classification from Brunel University in 2006.
It has come to my knowledge that you have vacancies for Planners within your company. I am very interested in working for your organization and wish to further myself in the field. I feel that I could learn much and develop myself as an engineer if I were to work as part or your team.
I have attached my CV as a first step in exploring the possibilities of employment with you.
My most recent engineering experience is with Black & Veatch Ltd, as a Project Controls Analyst working on Thames Water AMP5 Lot B projects. Prior to this, I worked in the Consulting Engineering Services (Energy/Power related projects) and Water Europe Division (dealing with clean/waste water extraction and management) as a graduate engineer.
My current experience at Black & Veatch includes managing the project programmes of several multimillion pound water treatment plant projects through creation of baselines, developing programmes and WBS structures to include all elements of a project cycle by liaising with both the project team and the client. To deliver outputs as required by the client a monthly update cycle was implemented consisting of reviewing and updating progress in schedules, undertaking Earned Value Management using Primavera P6, producing monthly reports in conjunction with QS for submission to the project teams and client. Furthermore responsibilities included reporting and analysis of schedule and financial performance at Programme level for all 120+ projects in the framework, calculating, managing and reporting KPI scores for all framework projects through the extensive and advanced use of MS Excel and PowerPoint to ensure targets are met to maximise the company’s gain-share profits and avoid penalties
Other work includes proposal preparation, due diligence reports, Lender's Engineer reports, and preparation of bidding documents, financial models and power plant equipment selection.
My experiences have been invaluable in developing my communication skills both written and verbal; I feel I have an excellent rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds. Furthermore, I work well in a team and also consider my self to be quite capable of coping well under pressure and aggravation.
I would appreciate your kind consideration of me for the position and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Faithfully,
Shahriar Kalam
