Having qualified with a BSc Electro-Mechanical Engineering degree, I have subsequently started a Masters degree in Engineering Management and most recently, the PMI-PMP. Further to this I have also attended a range of project management orientated courses, which I feel, adequately equips me for this position.
After qualifying, I worked as an engineering consultant in the building industry in Cape Town before moving to Johannesburg to pursue a role in project controls for a global Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) firm. Here I received exposure to the technical and soft skills required for implementing efficient projects from conceptual through to execution phase. Being a planner, I was allowed insight into the methodology and procedure followed by all the disciplines required to progress the projects, using Primavera 3, Primavera 6 and Microsoft Project. These projects ranged from mega infrastructure for the petro-chemical industry to mine shafts and process plant retrofits as well as freight rail projects. Currently based in Dubai, I work as a planner with an EPC doing the baggage handling system for an expansion at Dubai International Airport. These roles also allowed for an in-depth understanding of the risks and the dynamics brought about by stakeholders and internal/external influences on projects. Because of the nature of the projects, I was able to be involved with the technical, costing and scheduling components as well.
With an enthusiasm for understanding how people and organisations interact and progress, I feel that my passion drives me to get involved and assist as part of any team, be it project specific, corporate or social.
