Having qualified with a BSc Electro-Mechanical Engineering degree, I have subsequently
attended a range of project management orientated courses, including construction
management and NEC3 contracts. I have recently been accredited with a Certified Cost
Technician qualification by AACEI, providing me with a sound understanding of project
economics. These, I feel, adequately equips me for this position.
After qualifying, I worked as an engineering consultant in the building industry in Cape
Town before moving to Johannesburg to pursue a role in project controls for a global
Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) firm. Here I received
exposure to the technical and soft skills required for implementing efficient projects from
conceptual through to execution phase. Being a planner, I was allowed insight into the
methodology and procedure followed by all the disciplines required to progress the
projects, using P3/P6 and MSP. These projects ranged from mega infrastructure for the
petro-chemical industry to mine shafts and process plant retrofits. The role I assumed also
allowed for an in-depth understanding of the risks and the dynamics brought about by
stakeholders and internal/external influences on projects. Because of the nature of the
company, I was able to be involved with the technical, costing and scheduling components
as well.
I am currently enrolled to begin a part time GDE at Wits University to solidify the
theoretical aspects of what I have learnt from the projects in my career thus far and use it as
a stepping stone to either a Masters in Engineering or an MBA.
With an enthusiasm for understanding how people and organisations interact and progress,
I feel that my passion drives me to get involved and assist as part of any team, be it project
specific, corporate or social.
