Dear Sir/Madam,
Please find attached my CV by way of application for the role of Planning Engineer.
I believe I am a very suitable candidate, having gained significant experience in the rail sector as well as the steel industry, where I was involved in major construction and infrastructure works. To support this experience, I also have recently gained a first class Bachelor of Engineer degree in Mechanical Engineering (and am a member of the IMechE), as well as a Physics degree I gained several years ago.
Throughout my time in planning, I have been responsible for developing detailed, multi-level plans and programmes and supporting documentation, particularly relating to governance of change control, risk planning, mitigation and recovery planning. In addition, leading planning meetings and regularly monitoring and updating the plans, as well as producing reports for senior management (up to Director level) has been common practice for me.
I am also trainied in lean principles, and use these tools on a daily basis in my work inorder to minimise waste and maximise efficiency. I have led training courses and have even worked with London South Bank University as a guest lecturer on the area of lean manufacturing and processes.
My most relevant construction experience was with the multi-million pound refurbishment of Blast Furnace 4 at the Corus (now Tata) Steel site in Port Talbot, south Wales, which became the largest industrial engineering project in the UK. I was responsible for building the complex, multi-disciplinary plan from its very beginning as well as reporting, monitoring and leading the planning in all senses. I also liaised with planners for several other sections to ensure the live Blast Furnace 5 was able to continue to produce iron, uninterrupted by the major works in the vicinity.

Simon
