After working in planning & project controls for over 14 years across a variety of disciplines (Rail, High speed rail, renewables, oil/gas. power & Pharmaceuticals), for some of the countries leading main contractors I have extensive knowledge & understanding of the processes involved in complex & highly detailed planning & project controls, the key role planning and its associated processes plays in major projects, and the importance of good sound planning & techniques from the inception to completion of a project.
Having used Primavera P3 & P3e (P5, P6, P8, P10 & P12) on a daily basis for over 14 years my knowledge of this software tool and the procedures it utilises are excellent. Aside from the basics of updating & scheduling a project on a daily basis I use a wide variety of reports both tabular & graphical, ensure baselines are kept up-to date within contract guidelines, & all deadlines met. I guarantee the schedule is critically analysed from the outset, risk assessed, fully cost & resource loaded, but most of all achievable and workable within the given project scope & definitions.
I count myself as very much a proactive planning engineer seeking out slippages, problems, potential risks; tackling these problems and mitigating the damages & risks before they arrive rather than a reactive P3 scheduler who simply inputs data, takes no responsibility & takes a back seat within the project team.
I have a wide and varied background with lots of experience. I have been involved in planning across a wide range of projects from small budget low complex construction projects, right up-to lead planning duties on major large scale & complex construction projects right up-to a value of 5bn (HS2).
I understand the fundamentals of project controls that are needed to provide each project with a solid base to ensure that from inception to completion the project can be controlled & managed in an effective & successful way.
During my time involved specifically within the rail industry I have a good in depth knowledge of the following:- Interlocking’s’, signal & Loc renewals, SpaD mitigation works, route works, property maintenance & remedial works, major civils & multi-disciplinary works, grit blasting & painting works, correlation & design for example Form’s A, B, C, H and the approval times/procedures of such documents, the Network Rail GriP procedure, railway standards, framework agreements, possessions and rules of the route to name but a few.
