I am keen for a challenging planning engineer position that relates directly to my qualifications, construction experience and passion.
Over the past years in construction, I have built upon a wealth of practical experience to gain a deeper technical knowledge of construction techniques and processes including site engineering, project management, construction planning and construction law. My BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering was completed in 2002, and currently awaiting the award of an MSc in Property whose dissertation was entitled ‘Management of Risk in the Construction Phase of Property Development’. I am also a distance learning student for an MSc in Construction Law and Practice.
Due to a dip in our industry’s prospects over the past couple of years, I have taken the opportunity to further my studies and in the process, this has proved invaluable in consolidating the analytical thinking, problem solving, organisational planning, communication, presentational and IT skills I have harnessed during my career.
Since completing my BSc (HONS), I have enjoyed a progressively successful career. Commencing as a Site Engineer, I provided a hands-on approach to my duties on construction sites. Within twelve months, I was promoted to Section Engineer, a role that involved supervising other engineers and acting as a point of reference for both managers and client in my section. From there, I rose to Assistant Project Manager - responsible for all day-to-day functions of staff and site operations, planning and managing subcontractors and delivering progress presentations to project directors. Central to this role was been the ability to work across organisational boundaries, providing solutions to project needs, prioritising work plans and adapting flexibly to changing demands.
Since moving into Planning Engineer’s roles, I have worked in bid environments as a tender planner, and as a project planner in different industry sectors. I am fully conversant with project planning software Primavera P6, and I have also used MS project, Asta. I have managed to perform well at all levels, including tender adjudications in which the employed programme philosophies often have to be explained to senior staff, company executives and joint venture partners.
In addition to my studies and work experience, I can offer a wealth of experience gained during worldwide travels and associations. My ability to express myself in a clear manner and communicate effectively, combined with a fair understanding of different cultures has proved a tremendous asset in my daily working life.
In conclusion, I am confident that I can make a very positive contribution to an organisation.
