Project Planning & Support,
PP&S acted as a consultancy unit for the Gas Business. This was a company undergoingconstant change resulting from OfGas intervention, and provided a challenging planning environment. The day-to-day business was to ensure consistency and meaning to the 13 regional plans and consolidating this information into the Artemis database. I acted as the team’s Technical Area Co-ordinator (TAC) under Prince 2 Methodology. This involved designing and building databases; providing project plans; and evaluating and demonstrating new Project Management Tools.
Development Support, Q&IS
I worked in Development Support within Quality & Information Services (Q&IS) from the very start of this new department. British Gas was amalgamating all the region computer departments to one centralised department in Solihull called Q&IS. Leading a 4-person team I was involved in the evaluation and implementation of Project Management tools for Q&IS. The project followed the PRINCE methodology. The chosen products were PMW and Artemis SP7000, running on an ICL DRS6000. I was in charge of the procurement, installation, specifications, additional consultancy, system testing, upgrading products and acceptance testing all the products. Other work involved writing user guides; providing a support desk; ensuring staff had the necessary training; marketing our products and services to other departments; and liaison with users and support consultants.
Joint Development Project, Dorking
The JD Project intended to centralise the North Thames and South Eastern computerdepartments. BG (HQ) cancelled the project as they wanted to centralise the computer systems for the whole company (see above - Q&IS). I worked in the Project Control Office and was responsible for the Artemis Planning 9000 system. This entailed; design, development, implementation and maintenance of the system. I also ran training courses, provided user support, conducted technical demonstrations, lead a development team and provided direction to the manager of the Project Office.
