Working with Material Consumption

When I create the 3 scenarios for a project I usualy have to change the Material Consumption [per Unit Volume] for each material assign an activity. This is very time consuming since I usualy have 100+ materials for a project. When I asign materials to activities I use either the activity properties box or the activities tab in the materials properties box. Is there a faster way to modify the material consumption other than using the activity properties box or the activities tab in the materials properties box?

Working with phases (summary tasks) n Spider

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Vladimir, Rafael,

I am looking now at phases and I have the following few questions:

Question 1

I could not find any function similar to “Indent” or “Outdent”, available in MSP or Asta. I only found “Convert to Phase”. Hence the only way  I found to Indent or Outdent is to cut Activity or Phase and then to Paste it (One Level Lower or to The Same Level). Is it correct?

Question 2

I never managed to create the following structure in Spider

Activity code gets reused, when last activities are deleted

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Hi,

I was looking at comparison of different versions of schedule and found one issue, which I would consider a bug, unless I miss something.

Every task in Spider has a code field, which Spider later used to uniquely identify task, when comparing different versions of a project. This code has to be unique, it can be changed by a user, but default goes 1, 2, 3……

Managing resources (people) absence in Spider

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Dear all,

I am looking at resources in Spider and have a question how to simulate resources absence.

As I can see, every resource needs to have a calendar, which, in turn, depends on a Week object and exceptions.

I am now considering the situation of named resources.

Question 1

As in practice each resource has his own absence schedule (due to individually booked vacations ), does it mean, that I will have to create:

Overwriting of existing performance data with default values offered by Spider. What is the logic?

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Hi,

I am just experimenting with entering of the actual performance data into Spider, so far with just entering the default data, which Spider offers me, when I do right click=> add to Actual Data Input Table.

It works fine and logical when I enter the new period every time. However I can’t understand behavior and logic of a tool, when chose to include the period, for which the performance data is already available.

So, in the example below, I have created a simple 1 task schedule.

Benchmark schedule for resource leveling test

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Vladimir,

I tried the Asta Powerproject on what I call for myself a “Vladimir Liberzon resource leveling test”. A simple schedule with 2 resources and 4 tasks, which you showed in one of the forums here. I just found it very illustrative for the purpose of testing resource leveling intelligence of a tool

Tracking progress in Spider

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

I have the following question regarding tracking of progress in Spider:

I observe the following behavior:

Once I have updated progress on some of the activities (once I have entered an actual data for some of the activities), after that I will get an advice to reschedule project (which is logical).

Manually Edited Timephased Assignments in Spider Project

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Hi, it is me again.

In MS Project, there is a possibility to do a Manually Editing of Timephased Assignments. That means, that I can assign resource to a task and then go to task usage or resource usage and manually edit the amount of work the resource is scheduled to work. I can make intervals of assignments as small as 15 min.

See picture below:

mpp_manual_res_assignment.jpg

May be I didn’t search well, but I couldn’t find this feature is Spider. I only found how to assign resource to task with permanent loading.

 Did I miss something?
