ASSIGNING MULTIPLE ACTIVITY CODE VALUES TO SINGLE ACTIVITIES IN P6

ASSIGNING MULTIPLE ACTIVITY CODE VALUES TO SINGLE ACTIVITIES IN P6

Some scheduling products like Powerproject allow Multiple Code Values to be assigned to an activity.

This is useful for example when you have two people responsible for an activity but in P6 you may only assign one person who would be represented as a single code value.

If you wish to know some workarounds to this issue then click on this link>>>.

Accelerate your understanding of scheduling software to advance your scheduling career and be able to prepare better schedules with Eastwood Harris books and online videos.

These are all available through Udemy and training material on:

  • Microsoft Project,
  • Oracle Primavera P6 and
  • Elecosoft (Asta) Powerproject

10-MINUTE PROJECT PERFORMANCE MATURITY ASSESSMENT, BASED ON PMI’S OPM3 FRAMEWORK

952x508-ceros-0002-collage.png

Complete a 10-minute project performance maturity assessment, based on PMI’s OPM3 framework, to understand how effective your organisation is at managing project performance.

Once completed you’ll receive an in-depth report tailored to your organisation's maturity levels in three key areas: process, human capital, and technology. Discover how to better deliver projects - on time and budget.

Why do I need a project performance maturity assessment?

Project performance continues to operate under dire circumstances. The Portland Business Journal reported that 80 percent of enterprise projects fail, while a McKinsey study revealed that 45 percent are running over budget and delivering 56 percent less value than the original scope.

Most of these ill-effects are caused by immature or outdated practices.Understanding the scope of your problems and the specific (and fixable) pain points related to those problems is the first step realigning your organisation toward best practice project performance.  Read More...

AACEI Recommended Practices for Cost Estimating Maintenance Turnarounds

The contribution of Bas Druijf from Cleopatra Enterprise

Read this article to learn how the Cost Estimate Classification System work for Turnarounds.

The Recommended Practices (RP) issued by AACE International are widely recognized and have been adopted in estimating and control departments across the process industries. Until recently, the focus of these practices was mainly on capital projects. However, they are now also beginning to cover Maintenance Turnarounds.

As an initial step in covering this important aspect of process plant operation and management, the AACEI has issued the Recommended Practice: Cost Estimate Classification System – As Applied in Maintenance Turnarounds for the Process Industries (112R-20).

This Recommended Practice helps both to standardize work processes and to take cost estimating for turnarounds to the next level. It gives industry professionals a common language, which they can always fall back on. Read the full article to learn more.

HOW TO USE TRACE LOGIC IN SCHEDULEREADER

sr02.png

Trace Logic helps project managers and schedulers to examine why an activity is scheduled to occur at a particular time. It enables them to step or “trace” forward and backward through a sequence of activities, so they can focus on predecessor/successor relationships.

With Trace Logic view, you can easily determine whether an activity’s predecessors were delayed, or existing constraints are still applicable.

How can you use this feature in ScheduleReader? Learn here.

REMOVE POBS DATA FROM XER FILES WITH SHEDULECLEANER

sc02.png

Primavera P6 users can encounter many issues with bloated XER files due to POBS data since it can take hours when importing XER files into the P6 database.

But can you remove POBS without any consequences to the file? Yes, ScheduleCleaner removes several categories of data from a XER file including POBS data. After cleaning POBS data with this simple software solution, the file size of a large XER file will be viably decreased, hence reducing the time to import the XER file into the P6 database.

Read more how to remove POBS data using ScheduleCleaner here.
