DURATION FORMAT ISSUES – AN EXTRACT FROM PLANNING AND CONTROL USING ORACLE PRIMAVERA P6 VERSIONS 8 TO 18 PPM PROFESSIONAL BY PAUL E HARRIS

Often schedulers like to keep all activity durations to round numbers so activities will start at the start of a day and finish at the end of a day. When durations are not recorded in round days then successor activities may not start at the start of a day and one day activities will span two days, etc.
By default, Oracle Primavera P6 does not indicate when an activity has a non-round duration. The picture below shows two activities that both display a duration of one day, but the first activity finishes later than the second and it spans two days:

To understand what is happening you need to adjust how the durations are displayed:
- Select Edit, User Preferences…,
- Select the Time Units tab,
- The Duration Format section determines how the activity durations are displayed,
- It is important that the Show Duration label and Sub-units are checked:

You will immediately see when non round days for durations have been assigned.
