Three Issues about VALUE including Crossrail’s Journey with Earned Value Management in London Town...

Dear PP Member

We have THREE USEFUL things for us Planners, Schedulers and Project Controls Practitioners to read today (hope you like them).  The theme is "VALUE"...

(#1) THE BEST OFFER ON THE PLANET -

Due to the numbers of people joining the Guild of Project Controls via their LifeTime Membership option they have simplified their Membership Route?  Its a WIN / WIN. Here is how - Membership Route

(#2) EARNED VALUE MANAGEMENT -

We urge you to click onto the EVA In The UK Website to read about the world class event which promises to be entertaining and educational.  They have the Conference on 16-17 June 2016 and some cool Workshops on 14-22 June 2016.  It is located at Armourers’ Hall, Moorgate in good old London town.  Here is a good SlideShare link that provides lots of valuable information.

On Day 2 on 17th June at 1515: Crossrail’s Journey with Earned Value...

Here is a very "How to implement it, presentation" story from Richard Palczynski, Head of Planning for Crossrail, will present Crossrail’s experience with Earned Value at #eVa21.

Richard says...

"We have a very complete story, starting with how we procured Earned Value[EV], how it took a while for the Tier 1’s to understand basic EV, and how we have implemented quantity unit rate reporting. And then, over the last year, how we have evolved to realise fundamental differences between contractual positioning of the contractors vs. the need to understand where our performance on the ground actually is.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:4286:]]

This has meant implementing a substantive EV position as well as introducing Earned SCHEDULE [ES].

We now use ES to look at schedule variance in time and check this off against what projects tell us they’re doing against their milestones.”

Crossrail will lead on the theme of project and programme management with other associations and professional bodies sharing lessons learned on a wide range of topics including health and safety, procurement, engineering and the environment. See Crossrail Learning Legacy web site

(#3) EARNED VALUE IMPLEMENTATION -

In addition to the above (and please do check out the link AND the conference), did you know that our partners over at the Guild of Project Controls have a module in their Global Compendium & Reference showing you how EVM can help demonstrate where your project is based on achieved progress?  It also has a sub-module called Module 09.5 - Project Performance Forecasting which helps you understand how EVM can help tell you where that same current status is likely to take you?

That's all from us, more later :)
