Infrastructure Projects re-launched as a regionally-based business unit of Network Rail from April 2012. In addition to the regional delivery units (current work includes Crossrail and the redevelopment of King Cross station), IP scope includes a national Signalling division, Thameslink, and the Railway Communication System programmes. Its remit is the efficient delivery of renewals and enhancements on our railway through professional control and management of capital projects. Infrastructure Projects is aligned closely to Network Rail’s ten routes to give better coordination across the business and to deliver capital projects efficiently and at best value.

The Great Western Route Modernisation Programme (GWRM) - the biggest investment in this railway since it was built by Brunel. This programme is not only delivering the electrification of the Route but also significant projects such as Bristol and Oxford re-modelling and infrastructure works. Faster, more reliable services, more seats, better stations and more freight trains will not only improve the experience of rail users but also stimulate economic growth across the region and beyond.
