YOUR OPPORTUNITY:

The Project Controls Specialist will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on project status within the Technology Development group of our Horizon Oil Sands. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity of developing your area plan, schedule and forecasting and reporting the costs for labour, equipment and materials. You will play a critical role in the Technology Development group as the Project Controls expert, ensuring that projects are meeting schedule and cost requirements.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:

• Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray

• Company Sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out and Accommodations Program with charter flights from Calgary or Edmonton

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?

• Participate in review of engineering, procurement and construction schedules

• Assist the contractor and team in the development of detailed schedules to ensure effective utilization of workforce resources, materials and equipment

• Review construction plans prepared by contractors to ensure methods are economical, practical and compatible with the design concepts

• Complete analysis of schedule, progress and workforce data and provide recommendations for corrective action when necessary

• Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Asset Integrity, and Contractors; to clearly understand the maintenance strategies and operation goals

• Forecast, control, and report project costs needed within an organization

• Develop and report:

   o Project variances

   o Expenditure trends and analysis

   o Completion reports

• Coordinate with estimating and planning to establish project coding, and convert estimates into the control budget

• Collect and review:

   o Project costs incurred by category

   o Future cost predictions based on labour productivity

   o Material price increases

   o Subcontracts

   o Wage rates

   o Risk analysis

• Maintain project change control system

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Typically 10+ years of related industry experience in an industrial setting or in construction projects with an Engineering Diploma, Technical designation or Industry Certification

• Familiarity with and understanding of:

   o Primavera P6

   o Microsoft Office

   o Current industry and construction procedures and standards
