Durations have decimals because the definition of how many hours make a day, a week or a month is set in the File > Options > Schedule.
E.g. if you've defined Hours per day as 8, and you've a 12-hour task, the duration of that task in days is 1.5 days irrespective of calendar Start & Finish times.
You are better off keeping all durations in hours or keeping all calendars with same Start & Finish times.
