Changing "rate type" triggers Auto Compute Actuals and also erases Actual Material Cost: how to stop it?

Thank you, Zoltan.  I have sent a note to my Project Management Office colleagues, asking for their support to do the exporting/importing exercise of resources via Excel.

Byron as I mentoned the setting that were in effect at the time that the resources were added remain in effect. That is why after you changed the settings and then dleted the resource and then added it back in it worked properly with  the new settings.

The solution would be to export the resources to excel then delete them in p6 then import the resources back inot p6 under the new settings.

Bryon,

Export all of the resources using the built-in export to XLS, just export all resources assigments. You will need to add "Budgeted Quantity (or "Planned" depending on the industry selected at software installation. Sigh.)

Then in the "Resource Assignments" window delete all resources.

Then import your spreadsheet.

Zoltan, I have tested one activity, and have found that deleting and then re-adding the resources indeed prevents the auto-compute of actuals.  (I wonder if deleting and then re-creating the activities in which I put actual costs will solve the problem of erasure of Actual Materials costs.)

This begs the next question:  I am fearful now that there is no good way to delete and then re-create the resources en masse.  This particular project has 1204 resource assignments across 374 activities.  Am I doomed to hours and hours of manual electronic labour?

David, I'll ask our Project Management Office if we can try out the idea of pushing the file to a fresh database.

also in the activity directory under the resources tab right click and add a column for auto comout actuals and make sure that the box is unchecked.

basically the rules that were in effect when you assigned the resource remain in effect. The other option is if you are sure that you have changed all of the settings is to delete the resource and add it again with the new settgin in effect.

Bryon,

I can't replicate this.

I have had a client who did exactly your process for internal/external costing with projects of 10k+ activities with external timesheet system actual manhours unaffected.

If you XER a project that exhibits the bad behavoir into a fresh database, does that change things?
