Thanks for the suggestion however that's not an answer to my question. Neither does is solve date formatting. I suspect the date format in grouping interval is hard coded - I'm looking for someone to disprove or confirm my suspicion.
Grouping as suggested wil include the year but still the date format remains MM/DD
