You cannot sell an accounting program without a built-in audit trail, but no CPM scheduling software package has this feature. The ability to list every change made in a scheduling session has many uses. This feature is not the same as an ‘un-do’ feature. Many operations performed cannot be un-done.
In addition, selective undo based upon audit trail selection is quite useful. If I deleted an activity and then added another, I don’t want to delete the added activity just to un-delete the other. A change report such as produced by Claim Digger and Schedule Analyzer [8] will not produce the same results as a pure audit trail. It does not list who performed the changes and it does not work in cases such as resource leveling.
If looking for an audit trail as defined by Ron Winter I am not sure if this is available for P3, "much too old to have this!" is also my suspicion.
I use Spider Project and it provides for both within the software. I rarely use the audit functionality we call Protocol of Actions, not even as a sophisticated undo. It shines on multiuser enviroment where you want to track by who and when changes are performed, but I am currently working on a single user enviroment. The table can grow fast, you can set a limit on the size of the table or use filters on standard and user defined fields for this table. This is very simple but powerful functionality.
If you are looking only for file comparison functionality I suggest you use Ron Winter Schedule Analyzer it comes with many other goodies, though not with an audit trail per se. I advocate only for supported software, in case of problems the developer will be available to help you. P3 is no longer supported but 50% is better than none. A file comparison can be easy but the additional goodies are more advanced. Ron Winter is a frequent visitor to PP and he is always available for help.

If you latter move on to P6 this might be of interest, is not within P6 but maybe can do it.

Hi Mike,
there is no such functionnality in P3, much too old to have this!
Eric H.T. Chou had in the past developped "HTC-NETCOMP" to do the job, still available for download at http://www.htcprojectcontrols.com/Software.htm
