It is well understood that the look ahead schedule is not only for clients; it is for everybodys action. That is what ive mentioned that in addition to Eriks comments in my reply.....

Wat is your requirement for a lookahead schedule. (Please note not your Clients). The Idea for a look ahead schedule is for you to see what you are going to do in the next period. Remember the schedule is for YOU to manage your job.
You only send a copy to the Client for his information. Which also give the client a comfort feeling that you are doing your work
I normally feel the following is a sufficiant.
1) A Look ahead schedule (Based on Current Relastic Forecast) (-1W + 3 W)
2) Issue a Target Late Report. (Based on your Target Dates)again this is for you to see were you are running late.
I am completely agree with Daya...Look ahead (does not matter for One Week Or for Three Months) is one of the useful report for the clients in order to prepare themselves for the coming activities in work sequence.

The real purpose of a look ahead schedule is to inform the client what you are going to do in the specified period(2 weeks look ahead or 1 month or 2 months look ahead etc.,)so that the client can prepare themselves well for clearing approval on some drawings etc., which may be required for executing your tasks or may be some other interface work(third party) commencement depends on completion of your activity so the client has to co-ordinate on this matter and inform well in advance to let the interface party(contractor)to prepare his works........ If it is the case your look ahead schedule should be based on your current progress update.
Imagine, what would happen if your look ahead schedule is based on your baseline schedule and your current progress updated schedule is deviating much from the baseline schedule...........
The object of a look ahead schedule is to highlight interfaces and requirements between contractors. This is not always shown on the schedule.
A lookahead filtered from the schedule is a good indication of what will be happening in that period.
I normally have them done as a write-up, with required risk assessments, access reminders, information requirements, etc., attached to the lookahead from the program.
As far as a lookahead based on baseline dates is concerned, you have to look at the critical path to evaluate its effect. There might just be a change in logic, showing the activity out of sequence. There is usually a reason for that. The activity is now not in the look ahead anymore. You could only use it in a perfect world.
