it's not 100% true: in P3 each and every resource gets automatically its own calendar; create a new resource and then go to Data, Calendars, Resources and you will see this new resource specific calendar;
in the Data, Resources dialog, the "Base" column displays the "Base" calendar P3 is using as a template for this specific resource's calendar
In P6 on the other hand, resources do not get a calendar when you create them; you will have to create resource calendars and assign them to resources if needed.
"Use resource calendars to accurately reflect the work schedules of your resources: personnel vacations and holidays, equipment delivery or lease dates, expected arrival dates, and so forth. P3 only uses resource calendars to schedule independent and meeting activities. When you define calendars for resources and assign those resources to activities, be sure the resources are driving and the activity type is independent or meeting."
Default resource calendar is unavailable in P3,you can create a calendar in which resource availability is identified and that calendar is assigned to each resources

Alexandre,
Maybe you can help me remember how P3 and P6 deal with the following simple scenario that combines independent resources with meeting resources.
Resources A, B and C can work independently of each other but only when D is available, all within Activity 1 calendar.
There is only one of each resource A, B, C and D and all work on the same shift, from 8 to 5.

Activity 1 will be scheduled to work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, three days a week, but not all resources will be working on the same day.
The following is how I model it now.
How P3 and P6 handle this 2 activities, 4 resources one shift job?
Best Regards,
Rafael
