Good idea. I will add it to the list of "to do’s"

In the interim, I haver added an appropriate clause that appears next to the button that we all press in order to post a new message.

I’m sorry to hear that. I suppose if any member disagrees with our decisions we should direct them to e-mail/PM James via the PP account for appeal. That should be the end of any 1 on 1 interaction.

James, I’m not sure what has been done in this regard, but is there any way to make the forum rules mandatory reading during the registration process for new members? One of those "By clicking the proceed button, I declare that I’ve read the rules and agree to them" so that we can minimize problems down the road?

It appears that a polite side note to the offender (as Bernard suggested) is not the ultimate solution. The ’offender’ is obviously spoiling for a fight; he replied back with some babble about how this is the way they speak in the UK and that no one but me would take offense to his statement. I replied that the issue is minor and over and that he should just move on with his life.

This approach is a little more personal that I care to deal with.

Good question.

They are encpypted by a simple function in the same way that our passwords are stored in the database.

Most databases store private stuff in non-visible fields - although you can (if you know the key) un-lock and then view them.

For passwords its a safety measure. Imagine if a hacker broke in and took a table with ID’s and Passwords etc! SQL allows you to hide them in case of such instances.

My initial thought was should we be monitoring what goes on to ensure that it is used properly - we have soem sneaky recruiters who are pestering people. After much thought, I think it should remain private.

OK, good point. I send the ’confused’ offender a polite note explaing how sensitive beginners can be to derrision.

Sounds like a useful idea.

We are not fully sure that the PM script is configured as best as it should be, i.e. it is still a little difficult to use.

Great idea. Moderators - feel free to type away.

Currently, we do not, and maybe we should not (ethically), store the messages that go around between members. Do you think this anonymity is the appropriate approach?
