OFFSHORE SCHEDULE

I cannot give you a sample schedule but would suggest searching on Gulf Publishing Books as an introduction on the trade. The following is a particular one that can be of some help, beware that offshore technology in Europe and USA might differ.

What you are asking might be considered confidential data to those in the industry. I don’t blame them, at times they take risks in the hundreds of millions to learn the way and then giving the experience for free, I doubt it.

The principles of planning and scheduling are the same regardless of the industry or project. I was originally trained as a civil engineer got involved in M&E projects on heavy industrial have planned IT, broadcasting, mineral process plants, charity concerts etc etc .The reason I am successful is that I apply the same structured approach.

Sit down with the designers/estimators/construction people and develop the schedule. Pick their brains but own the schedule yourself. This means taking some time, this time needs to be included in the project management plan. If a cost estimate has been professionally developed then it should include most of the assumptions about production rates. The planner should then be able to incorporate these assumptions into their time and resource schedule. If you do not have a detailed estimate then at least try and get hold of a breakdown of quantities.

Unfortunately many companies expect their planners to be GOD, "all knowing" and these companies see planner asking questions as a sign of incompetence. I see it as an essential skill for a planner to ask questions, be a detective!

For those in construction a great book which has been around for years is Peurifroy by McGraw Hill.

I am willing to sit "on line" with anyone who needs some mentoring/training. Email me at

Projectmanager@PMWORKSHOP.com.au to discuss how this can be done.
