Steps in planning using primavera

I agree Raviraj. The first is to "know" the project as deep as to break in small pieces and after it is very important to know all the logical relationships, linkages, and constrains.

For me these are the harder parts and where the real job of the planner takes site.

After introducing all tasks, precedence relationship, duration analysis, based or not on bill of quantities, the proper analysis of the planning must answer what we "Know" from the very start. In other words the critical path must be the logical one.

I do not work always with resources, i mean in Primavera, but this analysis, a debt in every updating, is the basis of the planning work.

This is not at all enough, but to be in sequence, this is it:

1. create a file using file name

2. Enter the WBS Directory in P3 from the WBS produced.

3. Enter the resources from the standard respource pool or project specific resource pool allocated.

4. Enter the Activity codes.

5. Decide the activity ID’s to be allocated depenmding upon zone / trade / contractor and others

6. Enter the activity id with description with appropriate activity codes

7. Allocate the duration and resources using the company’s standard.

8. MOST IMPORTANT - Sequence the activities in a logical manner

May be, other guys can add bit more

Cheers,
