Correct! The problem here is your version differs from what others have. Sometimes, a very simple function can cause a little bit problem when you are a beginner!
I mean that when I open P3,Format , then date, I just can choose dates in number format (e.g. 16112007) and I cant choose the date format like 16Nov2007. Do you know why is that?

I hav P3.0,
Just go to Format --> Dates.
U can select the required format.

yes, it is possible.
*click* Format>dates
In the dialog box is a selection of date styles. the one you want, I think, is the bottom one
I believe this is view specific so you will need to change it in each of your views
