A clean way to break up you project into four sub projects and to keep the interproject relationships in P3 is to:



1. Create 4 subprojects by using the File New command and add the new project to an existing Project Group.

2. Open the Project Group, and that will open up all the projects.

3. To assign an activity to a Subproject, the Activity ID has to be prefixed with the Subproject ID, assigned when the subproject was created. This may be completed several ways, but the existing ID needs to be 8 or less characters so 2 extra may be put in front. You may copy and past and select the Prefix or Suffix option and assign the activities with the 2 Character Subproject ID as a prefix, and remember to Paste the Links (which will keep your interproject relationships); then delete the original copied activities. You may also use Global Change; or manually add the prefix, but this may take time if there are a lot to do.

4. Now you will be able to open either the project group which will be all the activities of all four projects or on subproject at a time.

5. Activities without a Subproject Activity ID are considered part of the Project Group.

6. Inter project relationships are entered at Project Group Level.

7. You need to understand the advanced scheduling found under Tools, Schedule, Options, Advanced tab.

first of all thanks for the reply.

the links with the general activities that are quiet a few in number is just taken away....

it means another days exercise. any way by which i can save time?

Wouldnt you just copy your main plan four times, delete from each of these copies those activities which arent relevant to each area. Copy your original plan to a new name and delete all activities.

Copy each of your four plans to the new master plan, being mindful of activity id character limits and naming conventions.

Hi,

does any one of yous know how to divide an already existing project into sections. i have made a big project i mean comprising of four locations. now i want to divided them into subgroups for better control and evaluation. is it possible?

I have suretrack as well as P3.
